Established in 2001, the FBRC is made up of scientists within the Florida State University System who receive funding through the USF CBD. Each spring, the USF CBD releases a request for applications (RFA) which has generated over 30 projects funded across eight universities within Florida, including a collaborative project at Texas Tech University. All Florida public universities are eligible for funding under this initiative and proposals are peer-reviewed within the Department of Defense. The goal of the FBRC is to expand the range of biodefense research capabilities of the USF CBD and to encourage collaborations on biodefense-related and emerging infectious diseases research projects among universities in Florida.
